Target Beauty Box Reviews September 2017
Yes, you read that right, time for the Target Beauty Box Reviews. For the month of September, Target has 2 beauty boxes available: Your New Basics and Total Hydration. So let’s get right to it.
The cost of each box was $7 and it was paid for by yours truly. The opinions provided of this beauty box review are 100% my own.

Target Beauty Box – Your New Basics
- Acure Ultra Hydrating Shampoo
- Acure Ultra Hydrating Conditioner
- Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Jar
- NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion
- Sensodyne ProNamel Strong & Bright
- Simple Micellar Water
- up&up Premium Cotton Rounds
- Total Tease Mascara – Very Black
Acure Ultra Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner is up first. I love it when Target puts the shampoo and corresponding conditioner in the beauty box. I think it gives you a true test of the product. These products may be in the Your New Basics beauty box (vs the Total Hydration box), but they are super hydrating giving your locks lasting moisture. It’s all about the current Argan Oil trend – which I love. Typically, I like the warm scent of Argan Oil, but these products give me a slight almond vibe. I need a biscotti stat! With a Cappaccino!
Next up is Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb jar. Again, this is a product of the New Basics box, but could have also been included in the Total Hydration box. Perhaps Target should have called the boxes Hydration and Hydration the sequel (even more hydrating!) Anywho, this is a lovely moisturizer that goes on super light but feels absolutely supple. Perfect for keeping skin properly hydrated as the air turns cooler and drier. Game of Thrones may be on hiatus, but Winter is coming!
Up next is Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion. Again with the almond scent on this one. Still waiting on my biscotti and cappuccino! Anybody? I have used Nivea’s In-Shower Body Lotions before. They are very moisturizing and smell great. However, I do have an issue with this product. Now more than ever, people are pressed for time, constantly on the go and generally looking for ways to do more with less. The idea of being able to moisturize in the shower sounds like a time saver. And I guess it could be, until you realize that the shower floor is now super slick and needs to be cleaned. I’m sorry but the last thing I want to do after a shower is clean the bathroom. So there’s that. Is it just me?
Now for some hydrating toothpaste! I’m just kidding! Seems like that was the direction Target was heading – I’m just saying. Sensodyne ProNamel Strong & Bright toothpaste is something that I have used before. If you have sensitive teeth, it really does work to resolve that issue. But in addition to preventing tooth pain caused by sensitivity, this formula will also whitens teeth while strengthening the enamel against acidic food and drinks.
I paired these next 2 things together: Simple Micellar Water and Target’s brand up&up Premium Cotton Rounds. If you are not familiar with cleansing water, this article from Marie Claire breaks it down. Basically, micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water and acts as a facial wash, makeup remover and moisturizer all in one. This is great for those with sensitive skin – or for my daughters after they put my makeup on themselves. Applying the micellar water onto the cotton rounds is the perfect way to use the product. The rounds are dual sided – one smooth and the other textured.
Finishing up the Target Beauty Box – Your New Basics edition, is the Covergirl Total Tease Mascara in Very Black. What’s really special about this mascara is the brush. This special brush combs out your lashes making them long and full. One side of the brush has only a couple of bristles to really get into the corners, which I really like. Perfect for achieving the cat eye! And oh yeah, it’s a full-size product! Love that!
Now it’s time for the 2nd Target Beauty Box Review…
Target Beauty Box – Total Hydration
- Chapstick Total Hydration – Blood Orange
- Curls Blueberry Leave In Conditioner
- Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Creme
- Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula
- Pretty Animalz Sheet Mask – Panda
- SheaMoisture Argan Oil & Almond Milk Smooth & Tame Shampoo
- St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub
First up in the 2nd Target Beauty Box – Total Hydration is ChapStick Total Hydration in Blood Orange. How many times can I type Total Hydration in a paragraph? This balm has a formula to help moisturize, renew and transform lips making them appear youthful-looking. This balm is colorless so perfect for everyday wear and under lipsticks. I’m not crazy about calling this Blood Orange flavored. I mean, I like the flavor and the taste of blood oranges, but this just sounds wrong.
Next up is a product called Curls Blueberry Leave In Conditioner. I love using products for my wavy hair. I especially like leave-in conditioners to help control the frizz. This formula helps to hydrate (of course) and boost healthy hair growth. It smells very sweet, although I’m not sure I would call it blueberry. Definitely, a berry fragrance though. According to the ingredients, there are extracts of organic blueberry and chamomile, along with coconut oil. Sounds like a nice salad dressing!
Not to be confused with the Curls product, comes another hair product called Curls Unleashed. Initially I thought this was an intensive in-shower hair mask. In reading the instructions, that is not the case. Apparently, you put a liberal amount into your palms and apply throughout your hair, then style as desired. I haven’t tried this product as of yet. I figure that since I have what I consider wavy hair vs curly, I would use a little less, maybe a quarter-sized dollop for my hair length. So I figure that this pouch will last me for at least 6 – 8 applications.
When I think of a hydration product, one of the first products that comes to mind is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula. If you have read my pregnancy story, then you know that I had Cesarean births. My doctor, a plastic surgeon who did my close after my second pregnancy, highly recommended Palmer’s for my scar. I’ve been using it ever since. It makes my skin supple and lightly scented of cocoa butter. Now, please take 5 minutes and watch this SNL clip and you’ll see why whenever I think of cocoa butter, I think of singer, Aaron Neville. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Wasn’t that video just the best? I love me some SNL! Anywho, back to the Target Beauty Box Review. Pretty Animalz by Look Beauty is up next with this beauty box’s sheet mask offering. It seems like every beauty box as of late has one. The difference with this particular one is that the sheet mask will make you look like a Panda! No more looking like Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs dancing around pretending he is a girl wearing her skin on his face. Sorry, I know, bad visual. Seriously though, sheet masks – kinda creepy. Now you can look like a panda. But I wouldn’t wear this one around any small children.
In keeping with the Target’s total hydration products, we have SheaMoisture Argan Oil & Almond Milk Smooth & Tame Shampoo and Blow Out Creme. Love the smell of Argan Oil for my hair. Plus it makes my hair feel luxurious. The thing to note about this sample is that there is no conditioner counterpart to the shampoo. The blow out creme is strictly for styling. This should have been a 3-part sample, Target. Just saying.
The last product on the Total Hydration roster is an oldie, but a goodie – St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I feel like this scrub has been around forever. It consistently and deeply cleans the skin with natural exfoliants with that yummy peachy fragrance with each use. And if I can get a little serious for a second – cause that’s all I can stand – make sure your kids don’t try to eat this or any of these non-edible products. My oldest daughter thinks this looks like hummus. Seriousness done. Whew!
Goodness! That was an epic beauty box review. Did you get one of these Target boxes? Maybe both? Have anything to share regarding the products or my weird sense of humor? Leave me a comment below and let me know. Remember, Target always includes a $3 coupon for the current month’s beauty/personal care purchase of $15 or more. Stack this coupon with your other target store coupons, manufacture product coupons, Cartwheel savings (if available for your purchase) and use your Target card for 5% off. I love me my Target!
Until next post, my lovelies!
