Sephora Play! Beauty Box Review September 2017
The Sephora Play! beauty box review is here for the month of September. School is in full swing, finally! The temperatures are getting cooler and there is reddish tinge to the neighborhood trees. The Fall season officially kicks off this month on the 22nd and I for one love it. It’s my favorite time of the year!
Another favorite of mine is the this month’s beauty box from Sephora. The theme is “Fall into Beauty”. Get it? Fall? Autumn? Yeah, you get it. The Sephora Play! Beauty Box is a personalized box of samples curated for you by Sephora experts based on answers that you provide when you sign up for this monthly subscription.
The cost of this box was $10 and it was paid for by yours truly. The opinions provided are my own.

At the time of this post, Sephora has opened up spots on this subscription. The subscription can and has been known to close off membership from time to time. I was put on a waiting list before actually being invited to subscribe. Way to play hard to get, Sephora! Now, on to the beauty box review.
What’s in the beauty box?
First up is Algenist Power Recharging Night Pressed Serum. Unlike most serums that are liquidy, this is a pressed into a balm-like substance. This reminds me of coconut oil and it smells coconuty too. This product has the power to regenerate, smooth, and recharge skin. It’s awesome for fine lines and wrinkles, dullness and uneven texture, not to mention dryness. Apply before bed for an overnight treatment for a youthful-looking, glowing complexion in the morning.
Next is Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb. This is an oil-free gel-cream that instantly cools and refreshes skin while providing intensive hydration. This ultra-lightweight formula contains a blend of apothecary herbs, including something called lady’s mantle. Who comes up with these names? Anywho, this aqua bomb can improve skin’s elasticity and minimizes the appearance of pores.
Now it’s time for my favorite product in the beauty box – Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel. I love a manicured eyebrow and I especially love it when they stay in place. This sample came in a color called deep – it was a bit darker than I would normally use but still wearable. The fiber gel sticks to the hairs to give the appearance of a fuller brow – perfect for fall. But the fiber gel is only half of this brow-boosting sandwich. The other half is the application brush which is a short and kinda stubby (in a good way) spoolie brush. The brush-end is tapered for creating eye-opening arches. Never have a bad eyebrow-hair day ever again!
Instead of a fragrance in this beauty box that Sephora usually includes as the bonus, we got a sample of shampoo and conditioner from IGK Hot Girls Shampoo and Conditioner. Since we are in the middle of home projects in order to sell the house, all my full-size hair products are in storage. I have been using as many samples as I can in my daily routine. I used this right away since it was readily available. I was not familiar with this brand so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. The smell was light and feminine and my hair responded well leaving my locks soft and silky.
You know how clothes look so much cuter when they are toddler-sized? The same can be said of makeup. The Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12-hour Wear Waterproof in Black Lace. This teensy pencil has an easy-to-apply creamy formula that smooths on with super bold color. I loved how this went on and how it looked, however, I experienced some smudging after a couple of hours of wearing. So for me, it wasn’t exactly 12-hours of waterproof wear. I would wear it again but I’ll definitely have to check myself, before I wreck myself. I suggest you do the same.
Last but not least is my 2nd favorite in this month’s beauty box. Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Amulet. This lipstick is a highly pigmented liquid lipstick and it is semi-matte. The shade is a soft rose-nude, or would it be nude-rose? It’s a very pretty color and I would suspect very wearable for many. Like all long-wearing matte lipsticks, I would use a liner on your lips first. Sephora also recommends not pressing your lips together after the lipstick is applied. Urban Decay Vice lipsticks are awesome if you aren’t familiar and they have lots of colors.
What’s the verdict?
So I decided to try something new and if it makes sense to do this, I thought I would apply the products to show how they look. The first pic is me without makeup. Freckles and all – honestly, I didn’t realize that I had so many. The second pic is me with the Belif Aqua Bomb, the Gimme Brow gel by Benefit, the Sephora eye pencil and the Urban Decay lipstick. Despite the Belif Aqua Bomb not providing any coverage, I think it gave a somewhat dewy look. The brow gel, liner and lipstick did their jobs and I have to say, I’m quite pleased. This was a great beauty box, Sephora!
