Another year has come and gone and many people like to take this time to make the all too familiar New Year’s Resolutions. I, too, have made resolutions in years past, but more often than not, I’m left with good intentions and excuses.
As a lover of television shows, you may have noticed that at some point of the lifetime of the show, there is an episode that I like to call the “remember when…” episode. This is typically comprised of the characters reflecting on memories and/or antics of past shows. Basically, all the good bits are put together like a mix tape of the show’s greatest hits.
One of my all-time favorite shows, The Golden Girls had a few “remember when…” episodes, also called clip shows. Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sofia would crowd around their kitchen table chowing down on a cheesecake and they would recall various scenes. Remember when: Dorothy and Sofia singing “I Got You Babe” dressed as Sonny and Cher. How about the time: Rose reveling the girls with outlandish stories from her home town of Saint Olaf. You can’t forget about: Blanche and her endless parade of suitors. You get the idea. And if you don’t get the idea, then I implore you to watch this show. I can’t imagine there would have ever been a Sex in the City without the The Golden Girls. Just saying.
Incidentally, I’m a Dorothy and proud of it. Bea Arthur forever! Here is a fun little quiz if you want to know which Golden Girl you identify with. Enjoy!
Reflect On The Year Past
When I think about 2017, I have a lot to be thankful for and of course, there are things that I want to be better at in the coming year. Even though I technically began blogging in November of 2016, I really got rolling in 2017. I learned a lot. I mean, A LOT! Not being a tech-savvy person, I learned about setting up my website, photographing stock images, collaborating with fellow bloggers and stepping up my social media game.
On a personal level, I’ve tried to be more organized, do better in keeping my finances in check, and I’ve even lost a little bit of weight. Not “Oprah carting out a wagon of fat” weight loss, but weight loss nonetheless.
My daughters have grown so much that it’s hard to believe that only another year has gone by. This was also my first full year of being a stay-at-home mom. This started out a little rough, but I think things got better as the year progressed. I even volunteered at my daughters’ schools which was one of my goals for 2017 and such fun.
Resolutions Good Intentions
So instead of coming up with resolutions, I’m coming up with a list of good intentions. Resolving myself to a list of things that I will accomplish is a lot of pressure. Not to mention the guilty feeling if I fail.
I have noticed on social media that people are posting, tweeting, or whatever-ing, something that they want to accomplish. The purpose of this is “willing” the goal into reality or manifesting. Once it’s out there for all to see, you are then holding yourself accountable for the outcome.
So for the year 2018, my intentions are as follows:
- Lose more weight by incorporating more exercise
- Blog/post once a week
- Treating myself if I post twice in a week
- Go through my paper mail everyday, instead of letting it pile up
- Drink up to 100 oz of water daily
- See a dermatologist for a skin check
- Sell our house
- Buy a new house in our desired area
- Start a vegetable garden (assuming I sell the house)
- Create a work/craft area for myself (again – gotta sell the house)
- Start doing videos in support of my blog
- Get rid of my youngest daughter’s outgrown clothing
- Keep volunteering at the girls’ schools
- Keep educating myself (read the e-books I purchased)
- Plan a family vacation
- Write and draw more
So that’s a pretty good list of my good intentions that I will hopefully manifest into existence. Some things are one and done’s, others things are daily happenings and some are to be done twice or thrice a year. With all this in mind, something else I need to do, or rather not do, is beat myself up if I can’t keep up. I can only do what I can do, and that’s all.
Think about the good things that happened in the past year with your own “remember when… ” episode or clip show of your life. Take what you’ve learned (good or bad) and see what you can apply to this year. I just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, along with good health, happiness and prosperity for 2018. Whether you plan on making a list of resolutions or intentions, here’s to a wonderful new year.
Until next time, my Lovelies…
